Standards and Benchmarks are markers established
to push members of a particular industry to achieve a
higher level of efficiency, effectiveness or process of
carrying out the requirements of that industry. It also
provide new comers with the basic guidelines to ensure
that their services or products meet accepted or acceptable
quality so as to maintain the image and/or level required.
In Singapore, the Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board (SPRING)
is the government body in charge of monitoring and maintaining
the various professional standards and benchmarks. It
took over this duty from the former Singapore Institure
of Standards and Industrial Research (SISIR).
